Bacteriostatic water

Bacteriostatic water is a practical supporting material for preparing solutions from lyophilised products, including research peptides. It contains sterile water and 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which limits microbial growth after the stopper has been pierced.

Choose a 5 ml or 10 ml vial with the same composition. The multi-draw format is convenient for a series of reconstitutions, while two volume options make it easy to match the purchase to the project. This is a laboratory reagent, not a diluent for use in humans or animals.

Composition: sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. Volume: 5 ml or 10 ml per vial, according to the option chosen. Form: a clear, colourless solution, free of suspended matter and visible particles, at close to neutral pH.

Packaging: a type I glass vial closed with a chlorobutyl rubber stopper and an aluminium seal that permits repeated piercing. The product is sold as a laboratory reagent, not as a diluent for medicinal products.

The vial is stored at room temperature, between 15 and 25 °C, protected from sunlight and from freezing; chilling below zero is not advisable and does not extend the usable life of the solution. Refrigeration is not required either before or after first opening.

Before every withdrawal the stopper is wiped with an alcohol-based disinfectant and allowed to dry, and a clean needle and syringe are used each time. Contents that are cloudy, discoloured or carry visible particles are discarded without further assessment. The period over which a vial is used after first puncture is limited and normally counted in weeks; the exact limit is set by the protocol in force in the laboratory, and it is worth recording the date of first puncture on the label.
